The 1791 The English Reformation

1791 AD

John Wesley passed to his rest in his eighty-eighth year. His final words are reported to have been - “The best of all is, God with us”. Wesley was a tireless minister who spent the majority of his time travelling throughout England preaching to eager crowds. Once while he was travelling it began to rain heavily and the roads being in such a bad condition began to flood. The situation was so dire that Wesley was forced to ride in the fields that flanked the road but he continued undeterred. Another time his horse became so fatigued that he had to get off it and walk till he reached the nearest town. When he resumed his journey the next day the poor creature stumbled into a ditch and it took six men to hoist it out. Under such conditions John Wesley travlled an estimated 240,000 miles.

Whenever he rode in a carriage he usually spent the time reading or writing to make the best use of his time. Once while riding in a carriage to a speaking engagement at St. Ives the tide began to flood the road he was travelling on . Undaunted Wesley urged the coachman to keep going. At one point in the during the coessinf the horse was up to it s neck in water and the coachman clung to the carriage fearful of being swept out to sea at a moment’s notice. When they reached their destination safely Wesley first made sure that the coachman was warm, dry and fed. He then proceeded to the meeting house to deliver his sermon drenched to the bone in salt water. He was 83 years old.

God used the Wesley’s to ignite a spiritual revival thoygh England that was mich needed and prepared the way for greater movements that would follow.
