The 1535The English Reformation

1535 AD

Thomas Cromwell is made Vicar General and Vicegerent in Spirituals making him second in command in all ecclesiastical matters. This empowered him to visit all monasteries in England to assess their wealth leading to the dissolution of the monasteries. Their disassembly served to increase the king's coffers.

Anne Boleyn had a second miscarriage much to the horror and chagrin of the king. The king, desperate to produce a male heir turned his attention to Jane Seymour and began to openly court her while still being married to Katherine.

In October of this year, Mile Coverdale produced the first complete English Bible. Though not as linguistically brilliant as Tyndale’s translation it provided access to the Bible for all English men and women.
